At long last, we are able to share reflections on our experience of participatory design in the Mobile Voices/VozMob project in Los Angeles. (VozMob created a platform for day laborers and domestic workers in LA to publish news and stories using ordinary cellphones; it was the basis of the Vojo service now at MIT.) Our article, Mobile Voices: Design as a method to explore the possibilities and limitations of community participation, investigates power and participation in creating this mobile platform for social justice.
